FAQ

Q: Why did I have to enter my e-mail address to upload photos/videos and post comments? Will I start getting spam and junk mail?
A: KFMB Your Stories users submit their e-mail addresses and create user names to facilitate the functionality offered on the site. We will email you when your photo/video is approved or if we have any issues with it. KFMB-TV shall not use any user information for any purpose other than those defined in the terms of use without explicit consent from the users.

Q: What is your privacy policy?
A: CBS8.com adheres to a strict privacy policy.

Q: What types of image/video files can I upload?
A: Photos: Images must be .jpg files of photos that you've taken or video files that you've shot yourself. Do not upload your non-photo artwork, photos that you've found on the web, stock photos, stuff that appears to be copyrighted by someone else, screenshots, panoramic or oddly sized photos. No content that's inappropriate for public areas or nudity. Nudity, even tasteful, is probably not going to make the cut. Nothing out of focus, underexposed or overexposed, unless it's done artfully.

Video: Files may be .avi,.dv,.mov,.qt,.mp4,.mpeg,.3gp,.asf,.wmv,.mpg or .mp3 files. Please do not make them larger than 7 megabytes or longer than two minutes. Please do not use background music that you do not have the rights to. Music for which you do have the rights should be credited, if possible.

Q: What information should I include in my caption?
A: Please include the location where the photo was taken and the circumstances if appropriate. Do not use the caption field to advertise your website.

Q: Will my photo, video, or information be used on the air?
A: Our newsroom may use submitted materials on air for breaking news, or regular segments like Weather Photos. We may mention your real name and home town on the air if you share it. Only your Nickname will appear on the website. We will not display your email address. For related information view our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Q: I uploaded a photo/video to an album. Why isn't it showing up?
A: All photos and videos go through an approval process before they appear on the site. During regular weekly working hours, images will usually be moderated within an hour. If you upload a photo or video over the weekend, it will be moderated as soon as possible. If you've uploaded an image that falls into a category we don't accept (as specified above), we won't approve it. Otherwise, it will show up in the appropriate album once it is approved. If the material you uploaded is related to a breaking news story please call our newsroom at 858.571.8888 and we will try to expedite the approval process.

Q: I commented on a photo/video. Why isn't it showing up?
A: All comments go through an approval process before they appear on the site. During regular weekly working hours, comments will usually be moderated within an hour. If you post a comment over the weekend, it will be moderated as soon as possible. Your comment may not be approved if it is off-topic, contains profanity, insult, or spam.

Q: I can't get the movies to play on my computer.
A: Go to www.adobe.com, then download and install the latest free Flash player for your computer.

Q: I've spotted material or comments on your site that are inappropriate or in violation of copyright. What should I do?
A: We do our best to screen materials and comments before they are posted, but if something slipped through please email us the specific details at yourphotos@kfmb.com.
